Why is Pokémon card collecting so much fun?

There are lots of reasons why collecting Pokémon cards is so much fun, think of that nostalgic feeling it brings back. Who didn’t have Pokémon cards back in the day? In this blog, we’ll delve deeper into the topic of why Pokémon card collecting is so much fun and that it can be fun for any age. After all, it doesn’t matter at all if you are still a child or already in your 60s. Pokémon is for everyone and there is a very large but also friendly community behind it. The reason why, everyone has to decide for themselves but it could be, for example, for nostalgia, fun, an investment for the future, quick profit or because you are a true fan of Pokémon.

The fun of opening Pokémon packages

Do you recognize that feeling from before? You were a little kid and got one Pokémon pack from your parents or for your birthday. You opened the package and how happy you were with every card you came across. But what you could even scream about were the holos you got out of it. That moment when you draw your first holo Pokémon card, I think everyone remembers it. What a wonderful time that was, the next day in the schoolyard showing all your friends what you got out of your pack. Or trade right away? It was all possible back then! But even now, opening Pokémon packages can be extremely fun and exciting. After all, you never know what’s in it. It is very difficult to leave everything sealed (tight). Because who knows, maybe there’s a super expensive or beautiful card in that one package you put in the attic. You only find out by opening it, but that’s a gamble because for the same money there’s nothing in it. Anyway, the important thing is that you enjoy it. Whether you open them alone, cozy up with your kids or online on the stream. Make sure you enjoy it! Do you like to open a lot of Pokémon packages? The nostalgia of collecting

Who didn’t have Pokémon cards back in the day? You used to take them to school, play with them during breaks. Do you remember the games? Who throws the farthest against the wall, hand clap or just plain old fashioned swap. Wonderful was that time, carefree playing with it and exchanging it. Not thinking about the value of the tickets but just getting the most fun out of them. Today, Pokémon is more popular than ever and a lot of people in the Netherlands and Belgium are saving Pokémon cards these days. Do you recognize all the old WOTC Pokémon sets? The very first base set, up to the Skyridge set. What beautiful cards they were, and it may surprise you but I can look at these cards for hours. What a wonderful nostalgic feeling it gives, that feeling of the past! Nowadays we are quite a few generations ahead, but it is still fun to save all the sets, especially to make a master set. That means that of all the cards you put the normal but also the shiny version in a folder. Every card that comes out of a set, you then have to collect. When you have succeeded, you have an official master set. I always put them in ultra pro Pokémon folders myself, so they keep well and I can always look at them whenever I want.

For the content on your social media channel

It may surprise you, but the past year has seen a very large number of influencers enter the Pokémon world. Joel Beukers a Dutch influencer with 201,000 subscribers on Youtube opened a Base booster box live on Youtuber. (See the video below). But also Enzo Knol, one of the most famous influencers in the Netherlands with over 2,000,000 subscribers on Youtube regularly opens Pokémon packs on video. Check out this video of Enzo knol opening Pokémon cards. And then, of course, we have the foreign influencers, with even more fans and subscribers who have also gone all in on collecting Pokémon cards. For example, think of Logan Paul, DJ Steve Aoki see even started a TCG store. And many more celebrities from around the world who have stepped into the Pokémon world in 2020 and 2021. Furthermore, there are also extremely many Instagram pages that are purely focused on selling, buying or trading Pokémon cards. And what about all the Facebook groups that are just about Pokémon cards? There is even already a Dutch group with more than 10,000 Dutch people in it.

Earning money with Pokémon cards

Yes, as with all markets, of course there are people in it purely for the money. The beauty of this is that you didn’t even have to make an effort. You just had to buy everything from Pokémon cards a few years ago. Put it in the attic or your room for a while to enjoy it and voila. The value increased automatically, so a few years ago you could buy certain cards or sealed stuff for, say, 50 a 100 euros. And those same items can be worth more than $2,000 today. Of course, you can also choose to flip (double) certain items immediately. Suppose you buy a Pokémon card for 5 euros, then you put it on Instagram, Marketplace and Facebook for 10 to 20 euros. Should someone then buy it from you, you will enjoy the profit. You can then use that to buy new cards and play the same game again. In the long run, this will allow you to build an entire free collection. Just keep in mind that it doesn’t always have to work out and you will spend an extreme amount of time and effort doing this.

Conclusion

Whatever your reason for collecting Pokémon cards, remember at all times that it’s all about the fun! You also get to know a lot of really nice people purely by buying and selling the items. Because to sell something, you will always have to chat/type with another party anyway. This automatically puts you in touch with other hobbyists and they have the same interests as you, namely Pokémon card collecting. This makes it easier to click and who knows, you might even build up a whole new group of friends! We hope you enjoy collecting the cards!
