Selling Pokemon cards, how, where and why?

In this blog we are going to talk about selling pokemon cards. Why would anyone want to sell their Pokemon cards? How and where can you sell your Pokemon cards? For each heading, we will go into more detail.

Why would anyone want to sell their Pokemon cards?

There are many possible answers to this question, we will tell you the most used reasons!

~ The person selling the cards needs money. This could be for a broken down car, for example, or because this person is going to make a very expensive purchase. For example, think about buying a house, then you need money. Ideal to then sell some or all of your Pokemon cards. It’s another 2 weeks of waiting for your paycheck, all your savings are already in Pokemon and your car suddenly breaks down. You get a bill of a few 100 euros. You will then have to come up with something to pay that bill. Are you waiting for your paycheck? Or sell something you already have lying around the house. Then it’s very easy to just sell a nice PSA Pokemon card or some nice raws you have duplicated anyway. In short you need money for a bill or to buy something else and therefore sell your cards.

~ You’ve changed saving tactics. For example, you used to save only Pokemon Base set cards, but now want to switch to only PSA Charizards? So then you need a big budget. Do you have no savings left in your account? No problem, then just sell your cards that don’t have Charizard on them! That way, you’ll still have enough money to invest in your new Pokemon goal. It happens quite often that collectors change goals over the years. Above all, follow your feelings is the most important thing you decide what you want to save and how much you spend on it.

~ You think it’s time to start selling at a nice profit. Many Pokemon collectors have been in the hobby for many years. At some point, all of your cards may have become worth super much money. So now you think it’s time to start cashing in. It is common for a great collector to sell his entire collection. This is then done, for example, in a claimsale or by auction. This process is also often called flipping, you then sell your items at least X2 the purchase value.

~ You switch to another Trading Card Game. We’ve seen this too, people switching from Pokemon to soccer cards, Yugi-Oh cards or Dragon Ball Z. In fact, there are a lot of Trading Card Games in the world that are very popular. But Pokemon is one of the most popular anyway so we’re not thinking of switching.

These were some of the reasons why people sometimes sell their Pokemon cards. So you don’t always have to think something weird of someone selling something. This is quite normal in the collector’s world.

Where can you sell your Pokemon cards?

There are lots of places where you can sell your cards. For example, consider sales platforms such as; Marketplace, Ebay & Cardmarket. For Dutch collectors, these are surely the favorite platforms to sell. But you also have Facebook groups and Facebook Market Place where you can offer your tickets.

We take a Dutch Pokemon Facebook group as an example namely: Pokemon Cards Sales/auction/flashsales
This is one of the largest Pokemon Facebook groups in the Netherlands. At the time of writing, there are a whopping 2355 Pokemon collectors in this group. Do you live in the Netherlands or Belgium and is your Facebook account longer than one year? Then you can join this group. You will then join a group that is purely focused on Pokemon. You can buy all sorts of things here, think single cards, bulk, sealed items, elite trainer boxes, booster boxes, theme decks and more! There are also regular live sales, when someone will open live pokemon packages that you as a viewer can claim. You then pay X amount for this that is indicated in the live and then the person from the live opens your package! Who knows, you might pull a really nice Charizard.

Selling cards, sealed or other Pokemon stuff is also allowed. Just keep in mind the rules of the group. For example, remember to include prices and the condition of the card. For example, is this one “booster fresh” or NearMint? Always mention this or if you are not sure take clear pictures of the front and back of the card. Want to go on a big sale with 100th Pokemon cards? Of course you can, no problem but please report this to the group management. How can you find an administrator? Well very simply, you go to the group’s home page. Then click on Members of the Facebook group. At the top of the page you will then see that there are 5 administrators and moderators. Then you can click on one of their profiles and send them one private message. If you ever have any problems with anyone in the group or a sale/sale you can also always contact the Facebook group management.

We hope this has given you some clarity on why people sell their cards and how you can sell yours.
