What is CGC Grading?
It’s a grading company called CGC. This is the abbreviation of the company that everyone uses, as it stands for ´Certified Guaranty Company´. This is an American company which has been in the grading market for a very long time. However, they started grading comic books and magazines a very long time ago. Around the corona period in 2020, they started grading Pokemon cards. By now they have a lot of experience in this and they grade more per month than most grading companies. This is why many Pokemon collectors say they are in the top three grading companies. PSA is at 1# and Beckett at 2# and then behind that comes CGC at 3#. So they got that done very quickly, despite more and more grading companies popping up. So this means they are definitely doing something good.
What do Pokemon card degrees cost at CGC?
Costs vary by method of submission. In fact, you can choose to grade with subgrades or without. With subgrades it currently costs 28 euros, without subgrades 18 euros per ticket. If you send in more Pokemon cards or send them through a particular middleman, it may differ somewhat in price. The cost to grade an error Pokemon card is a lot higher, then we are soon talking about 45 euros per card. You can always check the current price of the degree with your middleman before you submit cards or check on the CGC website. Website: https://www.cgccomics.com/grading/grading-process/
Are we also grading our cards with this company?
Yes, getting your Pokemon cards graded here is definitely recommended. If only a few, just to test it out. So our advice is always, send a few cards and experience it for yourself. Surely that is the best way to learn which grading company suits you and where you like the service, processing time and cost best. We have graded very much at this company in the past, especially when PSA and Beckett were closed. And also sent a lot of error Pokemon cards here, because they handle this best. So from our point of view, it is definitely recommended.
Why is this the best place to send my error Pokemon cards?
CGC Grading specializes in error Pokemon card grading. They recognize most errors and are ahead of all other grading companies in this area. They put neatly on the back of the bib what the error is and this way you can prove that the error is real. After all, you can never be sure if a card is crimped, for example, whether this is because of the Pokemon factory machine, or because someone applied it to the card themselves. CGC examines the error during grading and if they assume it is real it comes up in an error slab. Very nice to see, and good of them to do this. Thus, we Pokemon collectors also have a place for our error cards. Error tickets are generally a lot more expensive because they are unique. Every error is different and some are more desirable than others.
How popular is CGC Grading?
As we mentioned above, CGC Grading falls in the top three grading companies. They also grade very many cards each month, and are increasing as ever in popularity among all collectors. So that’s good news for CGC, less good news for other grading companies. So it is safe to say that CGC Grading is a major player in the grading market and is very popular.
Do we also sell slabs from this company?
Yes, we also sell CGC Pokemon cards. Right now we are still taking pictures of all our slabs, but they will eventually be for sale at www.pokemart.be and www.pokemart.nl. Visit our website again at a later time, and who knows, they may already be on there. It will involve a variety of Pokemon slabs. So that there is something nice for every collector, very expensive but also cheaper versions.
What do the slabs look like?
Below are two examples of CGC Pokemon cards with sub-grades. Please note that the slabs will have a new layout. We unfortunately do not yet have examples of this, as it has only just been introduced. But in the future we will also show examples of this. In fact, they are going to change the entire layout of the slabs. They get a new color label and come out looking very different. According to many collectors, a smart move and it looks much nicer.
What do we think?
It is a very big company and they are doing well in the Pokemon market. The only drawback is that they are American-based and less popular than PSA Cards and Becektt (BGS). Meanwhile, these most popular grading companies have reopened, and then you’ll soon go to those companies with your Pokemon cards anyway. Because, of course, you want to get the maximum value out of them, should you ever sell them. Also, more people are saving PSA Pokemon cards, so you can sell them a lot faster. But all in all, it’s a very nice company and the slabs look nice. For the rest, everyone needs to experience it for themselves. When you hold slabs in your hand, they do look very different from the picture.
