Pokémon cards selling in 2023

In this Pokémon blog, we are going to explain to you how to sell Pokémon cards in 2023. Pokémon cards are currently very popular, this has been the case since 2020. More and more influencers were also getting into the Pokémon world and it was regularly on the news/radio. But what many people don’t know, your Pokémon cards are actually worth money. Even if you used to play with it a lot, some old cards can easily be worth a few 100 euros. But don’t count yourself rich too soon, in this blog we are going to explain to you all about selling Pokémon cards.

Why sell your Pokémon cards?

You’re thinking now, of course, ”Why do I have to sell my Pokémon cards?” So ask yourself, when was the last time you looked back at the Pokémon cards that have been gathering dust in the attic for years? And do you think you will ever use them again? Be honest with yourself, they are gathering dust in the attic for a reason. Because otherwise you wouldn’t have left them in the attic somewhere in a corner or a box. Then they did lie in your room and you regularly looked in your folders or at the loose Pokémon cards. And with any luck, you can make a real collector happy. But think about it calmly, because who knows, maybe you are planning to become a real Pokémon collector, in which case selling is not so smart. There is also a lot of sentiment attached to the cards, as most of us once puffed these as kids. When you went to the toy store with your parents or your friends and bought a booster pack. This then opened, and everyone stood around you to see what beauty you got out. And how happy we were then, especially when there was a super nice shiny card inside. But the main reason to sell your Pokémon cards is because they can make money.

Determining the value of your Pokémon cards

You may not believe it, but Pokémon cards really can make a lot of money. Some, even in lesser condition, are easily worth 500 to 1,000 euros. These are then very rare cards that not everyone has in their collection. A few examples are the Rayquaza Goldstar, Charizard Goldstar or Charizard first edition cards. But the most important thing for you to do now, then, is to take a look at which Pokémon cards you all have at home. So it could just be, that you have a very rare card or even several rare cards among them. We have developed the Pokémon cardchecker especially for all collectors and enthusiasts, here you can look up any card or set to see how much money they sell for on average. This would be the average price at which this particular Pokémon sold for in the past 30 days on Ebay. But there are still a number of factors that go into determining the value of your cards. We are going to explain each of them to you in the following paragraphs.

The condition of your Pokémon card

The condition (state) of your card is very important. There are also special grading companies such as PSA, Beckett and CGC that specialize in grading maps for condition. They rate each card on several components and then give it a grade from 1 tm 10. It is important that you can roughly determine the state of the card. We briefly list all 10 of them for you:
1. Gateway to fair
2. Good
3. Very good
4. Very good – excellent
5. Excellent
6. Excellent – mint
7. Near mint
8. Near mint – mint
9. Mint
10. Gem mint – pristine

The higher the number of your card is, the more value it has. Of course, you can also check each card to see if it is common, uncommon or rare. The rares have an asterisk in the lower right corner. The other cards are called bulk, these are generally worth a little less by default. This is really about the “hits” with at least an asterisk at the bottom right. So take all the cards from your collection with an asterisk at the bottom, and enter them into our cardchecker. This way you can find out approximately how much money your collection is worth. The better the condition of the cards (grade) the more you can ask for them.

Where can I sell my Pokémon cards?

We’ve now explained to you above how to estimate approximately how much your Pokémon cards are worth, but where can you sell them? That is, in fact, a very good question, which we are certainly going to answer. There are very many ways you can sell your cards. Think about standing at a market, giving a garage sale or going to a Pokémon store and selling your entire collection to them. But anno 2023, you can also easily sell your Pokémon cards online. That pleases us at the editorial board very much too, we list all the websites/platforms for you.

Selling Pokémon cards on Marketplace

Marktplaats is a very large website and everyone in the Netherlands and Belgium knows it. It is very easy to create an account and start selling. You can choose to offer your entire collection all at once, or you can put each card on it separately. Through a separate sale you get more money out of it, only this also takes a lot more time and effort. You must then take a picture and ad of each card you own. So think about it carefully, whether you have the time and inclination for that or not. Because if you sell the collection in one go, you’re rid of it in one go. Creating an ad on Marketplace is quite easy. There are several options you can choose from: Setting an asking price or letting buyers bid from a certain amount. You can always decide whether to agree to someone’s offer or not. Finally, you let the buyer choose whether they want the cards shipped or come to pick them up. As you sell more and do it the right way, you get more and more reviews. The more reviews you have, the more trustworthy you will look as a seller.

Selling tickets on Cardmarket

Cardmarket is dedicated to buying and selling cards. You can very easily look up a single card and then see who all the sellers are selling it and what condition the cards are in. Selling works the same way. You very easily create a free account by filling in your details, then you can start putting your cards online. Make sure you include the correct condition of the card, if it is worse you will get negative reviews and that is bad for sales. So rather estimate it a little worse than you put Gem Mint (10) with a card that has some damage anyway. After each sale, you get a credit on Cardmarket, you can then choose to use it to purchase new cards or sealed items yourself or send it to your bank account. Do you sell an extreme amount of cards? Then you can consider continuing as a business player, then you will also get some benefits from Cardmarket. The more positive reviews you have, the better your account is going to be rated. Then more buyers will come naturally and before you know it, you will be one of the top sellers on Cardmarket.

Selling Pokémon cards on Ebay

Ebay is an international platform where you can sell to both European and global buyers. Note, however, that you have to pay a fee per item sold. So don’t count yourself rich in advance. It is very easy to create an account and, again, you need to fill in properly what the condition/state of the card is. You can choose to set a fixed asking price, or an auction starting at X amount. When you set a fixed price for your card, you can also choose to allow buyers to bid. This is also called a CO (Counter offer). You can then always choose whether or not to accept them. Also make sure that if you are going to sell internationally, that you also know how to ship internationally. Have you ever shipped anything to America? That does involve a bit more than simply sending a package to someone else from the Netherlands. All in all, Ebay is a very nice platform and you have a great reach worldwide on it.

Selling cards on Catawiki

Another international platform is Catawiki, they have special experts here who will estimate your card(s). After this, you can post them on their website as an auction. Here you will also have to deal with buyers from other countries, so keep this in mind when shipping. It is possible that an item may be a little higher or lower, please note. You also have to pay a fee to Catawiki; we ourselves are not very active on this platform. As a beginning Pokémon card seller, the main thing you need to do is figure out for yourself which websites you like. After this, you can always fall back on that and you will naturally get regular buyers.

Selling Pokémon cards on Facebook

Here we ourselves are very active on, we are also administrators of one of the largest Dutch Pokémon groups namely: Pokemon Cards Sales/Veiling/Flashsales. Currently, nearly 11,000 collectors from the Netherlands and Belgium are already active, offering or selling their Pokémon cards daily. There are 100th ads a day and there is something for everyone. There are several ways you can sell your tickets through Facebook. You can put them on it with a fixed price, just be sure to mention the condition of the card or post a clear picture of the front and back of the card. But you can also go for a claimsale, then in that ad you place all the cards underneath as comments. People can then type “claim” under each photo, which then means they are taking it from you. There are rules to it though, when someone says claim, that person must actually take the card. So don’t go randomly replying to every ad claim, because then you have to actually take the cards. If you break the rules you may be expelled from the group. The last way to sell tickets on Facebook is through an auction.

Sample Pokémon card auction on Facebook

Charizard EX 12/108
Condition: NM-Mint
Starting bid: €1
End time: 24 hours after the first bid
Shipping: From the Netherlands

The top piece is then the name of the card, the Charizard EX. Next comes the condition of the card, in this case an NM-Mint card, which is equivalent to the grading grade 8. You can bid from €1, possibly you can also add a reserve. The end time is also very important, an auction can last up to 24 hours but you can also close it after just 1 hour if you prefer. Shipping is also very useful to know for buyers, as sending a package from the Netherlands to Belgium is a lot more expensive. Along the way, you will naturally learn how best to offer your cards. It could also be that you are going to become a top salesperson and get so many regular customers.
